Meet Our Founder & Director
Carmen Flores came from Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Houston, Texas many years ago and began her journey as a 3rd and 4th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies educator and Reading Specialist in Houston public schools. As she worked with students from different grade levels and cultural backgrounds, she could clearly see the overwhelming number of students who struggle to read; hence, the increasing need for specialized reading professionals. Carmen has proved over the years that early identification and intervention allow students to experience success in the classroom, and this rewarding feeling was the sign that prompted her to fulfill her long-awaited dream of establishing her own firm to help children, families, schools, and organizations alike succeed.
Carmen has a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction – Literacy Studies from the University of Houston – Victoria and holds Texas certifications through the State Board for Educator Certification as an EC-8 Bilingual Generalist Educator and EC-12 Reading Specialist and Master Reading Teacher. In addition, she has received extensive training in Dyslexia Intervention from the Region IV Education Service Center and Neuhaus Education Center, and provides this specialized service to identified students. As a life-long learner, Carmen is an active researcher and practitioner in her areas of interest which include: explicit instruction, neurodevelopment, language and literacy development, standards-based literacy instruction and assessment, metacognitive processes for reading comprehension, written expression development, and language-based learning disabilities.
