Literacy Consultant

Primary Purpose: To provide schools with comprehensive consulting services or just professional development in the area of literacy intervention based on the client’s academic needs and allocated budget. Our consultants will coach and mentor teachers and other support staff through classroom observations, lesson modeling, reflections and supervision during diagnostic evaluations, small-group instruction, and progress-monitoring practices. This job consists of training, diagnostics, implementation, and follow-up on teachers and students to ensure academic progress anywhere in Texas.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Master’s degree in Education
Texas Educator Certification
Reading Specialist or Master Reading Teacher certification
Formal training in dyslexia intervention preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, TEA updates in reading and writing including STAAR, and best practices a must
Knowledge and experience administering, scoring, and interpreting diagnostic assessments in reading and writing, especially informal reading inventories
Knowledge and expertise in planning targeted reading intervention and designing purposeful lesson plans to meet specific student needs
Knowledge and expertise in progress-monitoring assessments and documentation
Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
Ability and willingness to seek schools in need of professional development and/or consulting services in literacy intervention
Ability to travel with overnight stay for long periods of time
Ability to attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings, usually on Saturdays
Self-starter, dependable, committed, people-oriented, motivational and inspiring, charismatic
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
High standards of professional conduct, ethics, and confidentiality
Punctuality a must

Experience:

At least seven years of successful ELAR classroom teaching experience in elementary or middle school
At least two years of experience providing small-group reading intervention to K-5 or 6-8 students in pull-out settings
Experience providing specialized instruction to dyslexic students, preferred
Successful experience in Reading and Writing STAAR preparation to elementary or middle-school students
Experience training, coaching, and mentoring teachers a must
Campus or district leadership experience preferred
Salary/Schedule: Compensation per project based on qualifications and experience. This is a short-term position based on contract length. Rehiring as needed.
