Literacy Interventionist I

Primary Purpose: To provide one-on-one or small-group intervention services at students’ homes, private schools, and after-school program facilities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, Social Work, Psychology, or related areas
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and TEA updates in reading and writing including STAAR, preferred
Knowledge and expertise administering, scoring, and interpreting diagnostic assessments in reading and writing, especially informal reading inventories
Knowledge and expertise in planning targeted reading intervention and designing purposeful lesson plans to meet specific student needs
Knowledge and expertise in progress-monitoring assessments and documentation
Formal training in dyslexia intervention preferred
Ability to attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings, usually on Saturdays
Self-starter, dependable, committed, service-oriented, motivational and inspiring, fun
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability and willingness to build strong relationships with parents and students
Must have a heart for children, a great attitude and disposition towards teaching, and the willingness and ability to go the extra mile to close academic gaps in students
High standards of professional conduct, ethics, and confidentiality
Punctuality a must

Experience:

At least three years of successful experience as a tutor or teacher in public or private settings
Knowledge and experience in one-on-one or small-group literacy intervention
Experience providing specialized instruction to dyslexic students, preferred
Successful experience in Reading and Writing STAAR preparation to elementary or middle-school students
Salary/Schedule: Compensation based on qualifications and experience.
